LPA News John Oleksik, P.E., S.E. and Tim Gilbert, P.E., S.E. to Present Innovative Structural Design at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 2009 Structures Conference
Austin, Texas – In collaboration with Sanj R. Malushte, Bechtel Fellow and Sr. Principal Engineer at the Bechtel Power Corporation, Mr. Oleksik and Mr. Gilbert will be presenting in late April 2009 the innovative use of concrete filled tube (CFT) vertical bracing on a recent grassroots, coal fired boiler project. This design approach balances the requirements of the brace design controlled by compression loads and connection design controlled by expected brace tensile strength. This innovative design in a high seismic area resulted in an overall structural steel weight reduction and a savings of over 20,000 bolts for the project.
